A Stunning Pledge

derb4262

"For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." (Acts 2:39)

Honestly, I'm reticent to pledge allegiance to the nation's flag fearing that to do so would violate my commitment to God as supreme authority. That reticence grows while the nation continues to crumble. About pledging allegiance to the nation's flag, I could be wrong.

What I know for sure though, is that God made a stunning pledge to Abraham, and then repeatedly throughout His revelation, to all those in Christ: “I will be a God to you…”.  So who would not be astonished by what follows, “and to your children” and "to all those afar off"? I mean really, why would God pledge anything at all, to any of us at all?

What is left for us, when we agonize over the souls of our children and loved ones but to replace the heart-rending cries of fear and agitation for their souls with quiet, determined, believing faith; simply obey (fear not, be still) and ask Him to do what He pledged to do.

Whether we pledge to the flag of a nation, or not is of miniscule consequence compared with our allegiance to God in prayer, as a response to His stunning and astonishing pledge to us, the undeserving.

Prayer is God’s promise and/or pledge, formed into an argument and sent back to God. Our prayers and our plans are not mutually exclusive, they are intimately, integrally, and organically designed by God to operate together to work out the pledged results.
