Speaking of Judas Iscariot, Acts 1:18-20 says, "Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the middle, and all his bowels gushed out. And it was known to all those that lived in Jerusalem; so much so that the field is called in that language, Aceldama, that is to say, the field of blood."
We are not better than Judas. Apart from union with Jesus Christ and regardless of the way in which death comes, every human will fall headlong into Aceldama, where spiritual lifeblood gushes out in eternal death. Ultimately and literally, that is the reward of iniquity. "For as through the one man's disobedience (Adam) the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One (Christ) will the many be made righteous." Romans 5:19
For a Christ follower, the 'field of blood' is Christ's blood and regardless of how death comes, eternal life rushes in. "For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that... we will live together with Him. (1 Thessalonians 5:9-10)
"Christ has canceled the certificate of debt consisting of (lawful) decrees against us, which were hostile toward us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. When God had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Christ." Colossians 2:14-15
