Christmas: Ancient Things and Times

derb4262

"Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:"  Isaiah 46:10

Consider a few unchanged and immovable "ancient things from ancient times" to frame your celebration of Christ's birth.

Sovereign Choice - God was before there were any eons; before the earth had foundations; and before there was, or could be, an organizational conception of a calendar date in the mind of a man. There 'a royal priesthood, a holy nation', yet unborn, was 'set apart' by Sovereign choice to share in the eternal life and fellowship of the Triune God.

Lord, Where can I go but to Thee? (John 6:68-69)

Everlasting Love -  The Father prepared a river of Love to flow across the earth's ages, sweeping the loved ones into the current of His salvation. The mighty river of redeemed life flowed and is flowing across generations, beyond the machinations of earth, and into a heavenly home.

What shall I fear Lord, but Thy frown? (Psalm 27:1)

Redeeming Purpose - And why have any become a recipient of this choice and this love?  For God's glory and their good, by the power of the Holy Spirit, the holy nation is saved from the just, eternal separation from God they are due because the Sovereign choice has a Redeeming purpose in Jesus Christ.

When Lord, will I appear before Thee? (Psalm 84:7)

Everlasting Covenant - An ancient agreement forged before time, when the Son bound Himself to redemption through His perfect sacrifice and righteousness in human flesh and time. Christ promised and then became the foundation of everlasting safety and blessedness for His holy nation before the formless void had responded to His Divine creative voice.

Thanks be to God, who gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:57)

The birth of Jesus Christ is so much more than a warm and fuzzy celebration observed by 'good' people, in a wispy, emotional state.

"Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of Your deeds, they would be too many to declare."  Psalm 40:5
