Decision Making

derb4262

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight." (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Evasion in decision-making usually stems from fear of unpleasant outcomes; of displeasing others; or of doing the wrong thing.

Fear of outcomes places personal control above trust in the hand of God.

Fear of others' displeasure places the eyes of men above the eyes of God.

Fear of a wrong decision prioritizes personal efforts above rest in the work of Christ.

The fact is, every decision involves a mixture of sin and sanctification. Nothing is gained (and much is lost) by trying to control outcomes, live for the eyes of man, or when failing to rest in the works of Christ. There is no perfect decision in a fallen world. However, every poor decision, once discovered, is an opportunity to learn.

I'm not advocating for thoughtless decision-making. I'm advocating against decision-making driven by fear. Decisions made while rooted in trust of God, wisdom from above, and surrender to God's work will "make your paths straight" to God.

"I will go before you, and make the crooked places straight;" (Isaiah 45:2a).
