Holidays or Holy Days?

derb4262

The origin of the modern word 'holiday' is the Old English word hãligdaeg, meaning 'holy day'. Christian holy days are 100% dependent on the Truth of Christ believed and lived, which in turn makes every day a holy day.

Advent - remembers the imminence of His birth and waits for His return.

Christmas - remembers His birth in flesh and seeks His presence in the heart.

New Years Eve/Day- remembers His care last year and trusts Him for the next.

Lent - remembers His sacrifice and relinquishs unholy things every day.

Good Friday - remembers His death and daily dies to self.

Easter - remembers His resurrected life and lives daily in newness of life.

Ascension - remembers Christ reigns, King of Kings... surrenders every day.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to celebrate Christian (and other Christian) holidays unless every day is a holy day. Many questions could be asked about Christian hãligdaegs - but there is only one answer:  Jesus Christ in flesh.

May this and every day, be a holy day for you and your family!

"I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul will be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of His righteousness - like a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels."  Isaiah 61:10
