"but I say to you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that spitefully use you, and persecute you" Matthew 5:44
A full Narcissus cannot love God because he or she loves and worships only the god created of self. Narcissus cannot love self because he or she cannot know self without knowing God. Because he cannot love self, he cannot love others, only the image he or she has made of self. The true self is avoided at any cost. The cast, crew, and audience pay a high price (soul-sucking) whether they join to worship the Narcissus god or they do not.
But Narcissus' hate (absence of love) is instructive for Christ followers. They are able by Grace, to begin loving God. Because they begin loving toward God, they begin to rightly assess and love self in Christ. Because they love self in Christ, they grow in the ability to empathize with and love others rightly, even their enemies. God's Grace is the only difference.
Inner Narcissi remain or recur inside Christ followers to varying degrees while sanctification progresses. To find them and repent of them affirms in love those things that tend toward eternal life and holiness, and progressively removes those things that tend toward corruption and death. Loving the enemy is a unique opportunity to reflect Christ in a careful, thoughtful, prayerful balance of His grace and truth.
