No News is Good News?

The phrase "no news is good news", could be understood in a few different ways. To some it might mean that news of events report an unwanted events. To others it could mean that no reported news at all is good, regardless of how events turn out. And to those that know Jesus Christ, it is simply a false statement.

Peter preached this disturbing news in Acts 2:

"Jesus of Nazareth, a man who lived among you and in whome God certified divinity through mighty works and wonders and signs, was delivered up to die according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God. It was sinners that crucified and killed Him. But God raised Him up, breaking the chains of death, because it was not possible for death to hold Him. David prophesied about Jesus many generations earlier - exposing the thoughts of Jesus to us, "I saw the Lord always before me, because He is at my right hand so that I will not be shaken; because of this my heart is glad, and my mouth rejoices. My flesh will dwell in hope, for you Lord will not abandon my soul in Hell, or let your Holy One see corruption. You have made me to know the path of life, you have mad eme full of gladness with your presence." David the prophet said this and yet he has died and was buried and his body decayed - but knowing the promise of God that one of his descendants would sit on his throne forever, he foresaw and spoke of the resurrection of Jesus Christ - who did not abandon David's (or our) souls in Hell, so David foresaw and spoke of the resurrection of Jesus Christ - who was not abandoned in Hell and whose flesh did not see decay. God raised up Jesus, and many were witnesses of this. Now that Jesus is exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy spirit, Jesus Christ has poured out the spirit that you many see and believe. David did not ascend into heaven as King, but he says of Christ, "the Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool". Let all God's people know for certain that God has made Jesus both Lord and Christ, the one that we by our sins have crucified.

In response to this news, some who heard felt deeply wounded in their hearts, and said to the preacher, "What shall we do?" and the preacher told them the good news saying, "Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit".

However Christmas is celebrated and whatever news of events is disseminated, the birth of Christ is always good news to those whose hearts are deeply wounded by sin. To these God is good in Jesus Christ everyday, in every way, and in all things.

The Good News calms inward fears, soothes the conscience, and gives lasting joy and peace. The good and bad in all other news can be embraced in Jesus Christ and the perfect will and plan of God in Him.

When the world, the nations, communities, families, or individuals are shaken by news, it is real Good News to know that the throne of God has Jesus Christ sitting on it as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. His plan and His will are unshaken and unaltered in all generations.

News of earth's events can adjust circumstances and the level of emotional responses, but they never calm inward fears of death, soothe a troubled conscience, or result in peace that passes understanding. Only the Good News of Jesus Christ can do that.
