Prince of (True) Peace

derb4262

"Now the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always, in all ways. The Lord be with you all" (2 Thessalonians 3:16).

Christ said, "I have not come to bring peace on earth, but a sword" (Matthew 10:34-37), which indicates many things, but minimally that "peace always, in all ways," cannot be defined for us by the cessation of all wars, the economic stability of all peoples, or the disappearance of hunger.

True peace flows downard from restored fellowship with the Triune God through Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace. Those at peace with God (#1 below) experience personal peace with all circumstances (see #2 below) and peace with others (#3 below).

  1. Peace with God: "Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" (Romans 5:1).

  2. Personal Peace: "I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world" (John 16:33).

  3. Peace with Others: "If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone" (Romans 12:18).
