"If you have run with footmen and they wore you out, then how will you race with horses?" (Jeremiah 12:5)
The work of life at different times is often labeled as meaningless and/or insignificant even though for believers, work assignments that God designs are generally the running companions that precede a race with horses. All those that have raced with horses can look back and see that the seemingly meaningless and insignificant running companions of the past were masterfully designed for the particular work in which they now participate.
A Christian work ethic doesn't plan and fret for work that is self-appointed or self-aggrandizing; it does whatever God designs, in love. Work commences with the firm conviction that God is always training for the next job.
God gives work to do: do what you can, when you can, with all your might, every day, until you die. The "beauty of the Lord our God" will "rest on (you) and establish the work of (your) hands". Yes, pray that God will "establish the work of (your) hands" (Psalm 90:17) so that tomorrow, by God's design, you are able to race with horses.
