The Christmas Gift: Part 1

derb4262

Hebrews 2:3-4 "..how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will."

We offer "thank you God!" prayers when we get what we hoped for.

We forget Him while we consider things to be smooth sailing.

We pray in fear when things appear as if they might turn out badly.

And when we've come to the end of our own self-help rope, we cry, "where is God"?

God is in the same place He's always been: transcendent in the heavens, and often nowhere in our thoughts. We tend to hold God responsible to our gift expectations without holding ourselves responsible to God's demands. At the end of the day, we tally up His gifts to us as a pile of things that satisifed a felt need for something other than God Himself.

Prepare for Christmas Day, and gifts, by thinking more deeply about the gift of so great a salvation in Jesus Christ.
