The Christmas Gift: Part 2

derb4262

"And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory." 1 Timothy 3:16

Again: We tend to hold God responsible to personal gift expectations without holding self responsible to God's demands, so His gifts to us are tallied up as the receipt of things we wanted or events that went our desired way.

But "God in flesh" was born, lived a perfectly righteous life, bore the wrath of God, died a horrible death, and was received to glory to bring the gift of salvation by meeting all the demands of God and making all the payment for our failure to do so. Christ's righteousness is imputed to us as if we had lived perfectly and His sacrifice is put in place of our debt.

So, with the gift of salvation everything else is a gift toward the full realization of perfect, undying life with Jesus Christ.

True, some of God's gifts (which all serve the gift of salvation) come through pain and struggle because "a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him" (John 13:16).

Christmas Gift: The realization that all things are gifts to children of the Heavenly Father.
