"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." Jeremiah 29:11
Jeremiah 29:11 is heard and quoted often, although uncommonly as a feast of meat as opposed to a baby bottle of milk (1 Corinthians 3:1).
Peace is frequently interpreted to mean ease;
“Thoughts not of evil” as earthly safety and security;
and an “expected end” as the circumstance of personal desire.
But you my friends are not babies in Christ, nor does your situation in Haiti (or any other unimaginably difficult area of the world) afford you the luxury of thinking and eating like babies. As Corinthians 16:13 says, “Watch you, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong”.
The LORD’s thoughts toward you are of (hallelujah!) eternal peace with God, and peace within you that passes the understanding of humanity in the face of your extremities.
The LORD’s thoughts “not of evil” are that your soul would be saved from the eternal destruction of judgement you have earned, and Christ has nullified.
The LORD's expected end for you is the New Heaven and New Earth in full and complete friendship and fellowship with God in Jesus Christ, for eternity.
Everything else is minor in comparison with the glory that awaits you because of THOSE MEATY thoughts the LORD has toward you from eternity past to eternity to come. Eat spiritual meat my friends, because milk will not nourish you for the battle you are now in. "I am the LORD your God, that brought you out of the land of Egypt: open your mouth wide, and I will fill it." Psalm 81:10. Eat the meat of God's Word, you will be filled.
