"the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God's people in accordance with the will of God." (Romans 8:26-27)
First of all, my dearly beloved, broken hearts yield broken prayers, but "the Spirit helps us".
God most often answers the prayer: "Take me, break me, make me" in the surge of wild storms. Even if you haven't prayed those words, the Spirit will be helping you with wordless groans. God must take you, break you, and make you because His love for you won't compromise while preparing you for full fellowship with Himself.
God teaches us God-reliance through the interplay of prayer. Let's be clear, the self-sufficient don't pray, they talk to themselves in an echo chamber. Battles between self-sufficiency and God-reliance continue all of earthly life. Again, that's why "the spirit helps us in our weakness" (Romans 8:26-27). We prefer anxiety, management, and control when God says, "be anxious for nothing but in prayer...." (Philippians 4:6-7).
Prayer is not a magical incantation to get what you want. Saul didn't get the answer he wanted from God so he knocked at the witch's door (1 Samuel 28:3–25). Where do you knock when you don't like God's answer to prayer?
If God isn't all-glorious, why do so many pray? If He is, why so carelessly?
